Hello NEACUHO,
Last week, we watched the decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court regarding Affirmative Action, LGBTQ+ rights, and the Biden Administration’s student loan forgiveness program. We write to you today to provide support and encourage continued dialogue.
NEACUHO joins in the many, many calls for continued advocacy and change that inspires, creates, and curates equitable and safe environments for all people. As leaders of our college campuses, we are all committed to this work. NEACUHO is committed to supporting you on your journey as professionals to work with students, administrators, and faculty in all these areas. Our work was recently reaffirmed in the adoption of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Statement earlier this year. We remain steadfast in our values. The past few days do nothing but reaffirm these commitments.
However, this is not a professional journey alone. These decisions are immensely personal to many of our members, executive board, Past Presidents, Compass Partners, corporate affiliates, vendors, invited guests, and visitors. The feelings of disappointment, anger, frustration, and dread are just some of the many emotions you, or your community members might be experiencing. In this spirit, we will be hosting an open dialogue on Friday, July 7, 2023 at noon. This is a space to come together as a community. Please register here if you are interested: Support & Continued Dialogue Space. This space is for all impacted and all those who stand as allies in the many fights continuing for unrepresented people and the sustainability of our work.
These decisions do not change our mission, values, or who we are. They do not change our purpose. They reaffirm that our work is not done and it is more important, than ever, to be the change agents to our communities, our campuses, and our students.
Sincerely,
Thomas D. Tressler-Gelok, Ed.D.
